True Works Of Art. Something we can only aspire to as artists.
In this day and age with all the stresses of everyday life it can be healing to fill our lives with things that can help refresh the soul. We need to take our respite where and when we can. For those of you who are unable to get out as much as you would like to let me share a little of what I have stumbled across in my wanderings.
Capturing an image
Like many committed nature photographers ( or one that should be committed according to my wife ) everything I do in photography is meant to accomplish one thing, to capture and reproduce some of natures most awesome beauty as it unfolds in the everyday world around us. To capture that moment in time as life like as possible.
I work full time as a nature and landscape photographer. I spend most of my time and money wandering thru various places of beauty seeking the next scene that captures my imagination. I shoot thousands of images on a regular basis. I return time and time again to the same places getting to know the area at different times of year and weather conditions. That being said it is not unusual to have to wait days for elements to come together for the right shot. Even then there are no guarantees of something unique. After all that time, expense, effort and yes luck less than 10% of what I capture will ever make it to print.
Printing
I do all my own print work.
Photographic technology has advanced to the point where it is possible for a photographer to control the entire process every step of the way from inception to print. In the end it's the only way in my opinion to convey in finished print as many of the original elements that existed at the time of the shot.
Purchasing Giclée prints.
Most artists understand they will never get back all the time and money they have invested in their art form. I suppose that willingness to sacrifice on many levels is part of what makes those folks artists when it's all said and done.Yet we have to make a living. My pricing is set so that just about anyone can afford to purchase a fine art print of my work. From a decent size 12x15 at under a hundred dollars to those prints in the hundreds of dollars to some of the larger more exclusive prints at thousands of dollars.
The Giclée print you purchase is printed by me from images I have captured over the last 35 + years or so. These fine art prints come in limited editions, numbered and signed. They are printed one at a time for each customer. The images are printed on heavy 100% cotton, acid free, archival paper. The estimated life span of these fine art prints when properly cared for is close to if not exceeding 70+ years.
